INSERTIONTransversus abdominis inserts into an aponeurosis. The lower fibres curve downwards and medially with the aponeurosis of the obliquus internus abdominis to the crest and pecten of the pubis, to form the falx inguinalis. The main fibres pass medially and blend with the linea alba.
VARIATIONSTransversus abdominis is sometimes absent, or fused with the obliquus internus abdominis.
INNERVATIONTransversus abdominis is innervated by the ventral rami of the lower six thoracic and the first lumbar spinal nerves.
BLOOD SUPPLYTransversus abdominis is supplied by the five lower intercostal and subcostal arteries.
ACTIONTransversus abdominis helps to compress the ribs and viscera, providing thoracic and pelvic stability.Lumbar Spine Muscles Transversus Abdominis physiotherapy medical presentations.
